LAist Goes Shopping in 2008

Here at LAist, we love to shop local. In 2008, "LAist Goes Shopping" found places to buy toys, clothes, housewares, instruments, art, and more. These diverse stores all feature locally owned businesses and amazing things to see and buy.
For ceramics: Heath. We previewed the Heath store just before it opened and spoke with artist Adam Silverman about the new Los Angeles. This company that has been part of California culture since 1948.
For accessories and one of a kind clothing: TenOverSix. Shoes, jewelry, handbags, coats, and plus Future Perfect from Brooklyn store within a store equals awesome.
For pop culture toys and art: mixi-bang. Mixi-bag in Pasadena offers vinyl toy blind boxes, plush creatures, and original art.
For dolls: The Valley of the Dolls. A haven for the doll collector. Blythe, Dal, and Pullip imported from Japan and many more fun collectibles.
For Victorian macabre inspired objects: Cipher Gallery. This store feels like walking into a pirate treasure box.
For musical instruments and equipment: Truetone Music. Need and instruments, equipment, repair, this is the place. Ask of of the amazing musicians who shop there. Their most recent high profile customer- Prince!
For dinosaur toys and craft kits: The Dinosaur Farm. This local toy shop has South Pasadena charm.
For vintage clothing: Shareen Vintage. Awesome vintage clothing and accessories, all carefully chosen by someone who knows vintage- Shareen.
Pop-up shopping: Several local companies participated in the PAPER 24-Hour Department Store and we saw the low rider car collection of The Last Laugh. LAist also checked out the TOMS Shoes Pop-Up Store.
