December is list-making season. And for us music journalists, it is a time to look back on scores of albums, reflect upon the music and recapitulate our favorites. But this year, just like the last, we took this opportunity to flip that tradition upside down, asking the artists that influenced us what influenced them. The prompt was not limited to albums that came out in 2008.

Professor Lacroix found inspiration for his brand of electro/Italo-disco/funk/space/house from the analog synth soundtracks of old horror and sci-fi movies. He recently released "We Come In Peace," a 12-inch single available at Turntable Lab. For him, "Vinyl was always the goal. Vinyl is forever, you can't just shift-option-delete it from existence. I've collected records all my life and I was always fascinated by album art, which has never been the same since CDs and Photoshop. So I've always wanted to do 12-inch art for my own records. That was as much a reason to start the label
as the music."
Looking ahead, his next record, "I Want My Eight Years Back," comes out Jan. 20 or what he refers to as "our first Day-Without-a-Bush in what feels like forever."
