December is list-making season. And for us music journalists, it is a time to look back on scores of albums, reflect upon the music and recapitulate our favorites. But this year, just like the last, we took this opportunity to flip that tradition upside down, asking the artists that influenced us what influenced them. The prompt was not limited to albums that came out in 2008.

Rio En Medio

Terry Riley - A Rainbow in Curved Light
Henry Purcell - A Prince
Sonoko - La Debutante
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Townes Van Zandt - Townes Van Zandt
Andreas Scholl - Crystal Tears
Dirty Projectors - The Getty Address
The Lickets - Journey in Caldecott
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
No One Conquered Wyoming - The Abel EP

Rio En Medio - "Let's Groove (Earth, Wind & Fire Cover)"

This last year Brooklyn-based folk songstress Rio En Medio blew us away with her take on a Earth, Wind & Fire hit.
