Angels in Anaheim Won't Clip their 'Los Angeles' Wings

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are keeping their nameThe iron fist of the law came down in what could be one of the most contentious sports-related trials in recent memory: Will the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim change their name back to just the simpler and more geographically-correct Anaheim Angels?

No.

According to the OC Register, the "4th District Court of Appeal ruled late Friday against the city of Anaheim, which has been fighting to overturn the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim name for nearly four years."

So much fighting over a name, and at quite the price tag: "The city spent $4 million in its attempt to restore the Anaheim Angels name through the 2006 trial," which is why they opted to put a cap on their spending ($150k) on the appeal.

It stands to reason, though, that the current name is reasonable; the team did begin, after all, as the Los Angeles Angels in 1961, and played their first season at LA's own Wrigley Field.

just name them the OC angels already.

if moreno thinks he can make money on the LA name, think about how many hats he can sell to cali wannabe's around the country with that interlocking "OC" logo on there.

the people ate up the OC movie and the tv show (and angels in the outfield), why not the baseball team?

By that logic, the Brooklyn Dodgers of Los Angeles is a reasonable name for a team

How about the Minneapolis Lakers of Los Angeles?

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is a stupid name. I don't see why they insist on keeping it.

Sigh.. the dodgers want nothing to do with this.

I understand why now. 4 million reasons... why doesn't the city of Anaheim just threaten them out of the city if they refuse to change the name.. Add a little slandor that they hate mickey and Donald so you get Disney on your side..

The Los Angeles Angels go WAAAAAAAY back before 1961, ya young whippersnappers!

True as an American League expansion team they played their first MLB season at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles and from 1962-'65 shared Dodger Stadium with the Dodgers before moving to Orange County. But before that the Los Angeles Angels were a part of the famed Pacific League going all the way back to Nineteen Hundred Aught Three.

In fact, Mr. Wrigley built the stadium for the club, after he purchased it in 1921.

Now ya know!

4 years ago, when the long stupid name started, it was presumed the change was meant to get people used to the fact that the Angels would eventually drop "Anaheim" from their name completely. As a Dodger fan, I'd hate for it to happen, but it's not like there aren't a lot of pro teams located outside of their actual namesake city.

@#4 Will Campbell - and Gene Autry had to pay big $ to get the PL Los Angeles Angels name away from the LA Dodgers owner.

nothing hurts more than when i hear this horrible, horrible name for a team.
