- Traveling for the Holidays? Officials at LAX say that crowds might not be a problem as in years past. Although around 2 million people are expected to go through LAX between now and January 2nd, that is still around 14% less than last year.
- Staying home for the Holidays? A new law passed by Mayor Tony V protecting renters says that if you will still have a home if the home you are renting goes into foreclosure. About 300,000 apartment buildings and family homes are impacted by this decision.
- 'Tis the Season... to look out for yourself! The California Supreme Court just made it a little risky to help out people in an accident. You can now be sued for issuing non-medical care.
- The fight against hatred may never end, but what did come to an end was a disabled man's claim that his civil rights were violated by a Del Taco restroom. It sounds bad, until you realize that the same man has filed almost 200 similar suits and earned over $60,000 in settlements.
- Congrats to San Gabriel Valley Rep. Hilda Solis. She was appointed as labor secretary by President-elect Obama.
- The Governator is saying that unpaid furloughs will have to happen for the state to save some much needed money. Some state workers will be forced to take two days off a month probably starting in February.
- Do you have a thought or two (or twenty) on what should be done about the budget crisis? Then get online and take a survey from the city. We need all the ideas we can get!
- Happy Holidays Spot! You're getting neutered! Really though, an animal shelter in south LA is offering free licenses, and pet food as well as spay and neutering services for people who think they can't afford to provide proper pet care. Just contact the Downtown Dog Rescue or the South LA animal shelter for details.
- Finally, with the new year fast approaching (yikes already?) the
friendlypeople at the DMV want to give you a little heads up to some new laws that will be taking effect. Some you already know about like the text messaging while driving. Some we thought were already laws like counterfeit "Clean Air Vehicle" stickers. So you clowns with the "Hybrid" Hummers, the gig is up.
