This is also very exciting news, as Solis is a daughter of Latino immigrants and is quite forward thinking on immigrants and the workforce. pretty rad.

So exciting! I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard this on the radio in the car. Solis is a leader on many issues. In addition to the above mentioned ones, she's a leader in the area of reducing health disparities. hopefully others in the house will take the helm on that issue, and perhaps she can affect the great inequalities in health status in this country through strengthening the workforce.

Great news -- I hope she accepts! Rep. Solis was the key sponsor behind the 2007 Green Jobs Act, which passed but has yet to be funded. Here's hoping some bailout $$ goes into creating green jobs.

I say outstanding choice. You see choices are what the Obama Administration will bring. We need strong and effective leadership with new and young professionals like this. To start ranting and whining and complain like the first blogger, is a sign of the stale pettiness and contempt shown for any one with a good idea or that doesn't believe modern man and dinosaurs roamed the earth togeher.

She's my Congresswoman! (I'm registered in West Covina). I'm still not sure this strong choice makes up for my growing suspicion that Obama is soft on gay rights. He equivocated in his position against Prop 8 and his choice of Rick Warren seems as if he weighed the pros and cons and decided that if it only angered the LGBT community, then it's no big deal. Then again, he is still better for the LGBT community than any Republican.
