Times Are Tough But Rents Aren't Rising...As Much

Rents Aren't Rising...As Much as Before in Southern CaliforniaAccording to the OC Register, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics latest consumer price index reveals that rents in Southern California have gone up at a rate less than 5% from March until November of this year, and that "if the numbers hold up in December, it will be the first time since 2000 that area rents have gone up less than 5% year-over-year," which was when they rose only 4.3%. In addition, "November SoCal housing costs overall, which include utilities and furnishings, were up 2.6% compared to a 4% jump this time last year." Consumer prices overall rose 1% last month in Southern California, which happens to be "a 10-year low."

Is the rental market in LA still hot? Couple years ago, it was tough getting a decent apartment with relatively low rent.

I've been noticing a lot more For Rent signs around my area. Wondering if it's time to start looking for some new digs.

Still WAY too fucking expensive for what they're worth. Rents now are literally twice what they were even just a year and a half ago.

Too many people trying to pawn off their crappy mortgages on someone else, I suspect.

#2: Rents in Los Angeles are now, "literally," twice what they were 18 months ago?

That would be true, except that...it's not. Or close. Do you have any kind of source for this "literal" phenomenon?

Big news will be when barely renovated hovels in Silver Lake and Echo Park cut their rents to reasonable levels, instead of staying basically even with recent years of price inflation.

My rent goes up 6% to 8% every 18 months... Strangely, my salary doesn't.

"My rent goes up 6% to 8% every 18 months... "

Which raises a question. How much will the city allow rent controlled apts to go up this year?

Anyone know?

Rent is crazy expensive it close to impossible to find a place under 1000 a month for even a small studio with no parking even in the less popular areas. In my building ( which is not swanky and doesn't have parking) the 1 bedrooms go for 1800-2000 which is triple what rent was a few years ago. I don't know how people are able to afford it. My salary has only gone up 25.00 per day in the last 10 years and the jobs are harder to get. My neighbor works 3 jobs so he can pay 1100 in rent on his crappy apt. Anyway, I think rent in LA should be more realistic and in line with living wages, it way out of control
