Here’s a sampling of what's happening around town tonight. You want other things to do this weekend? Then check out the LAist Agenda: December for upcoming events.

FILM: The first Los Angeles Taiwanese Film Festival opens tonight and runs through Sunday at UCLA. It features nine films and documentaries rarely seen by LA audiences. The screenings are free and open to the public. On tap tonight: “Taiwanese Films Now” – the opening wine and hors d'oeuvres reception from 7-8:30 pm. At 8:30 the film Chocolate Rap is screened.

ARONOFSKY FILM: LACMA hosts director Darren Aronofsky tonight, beginning with a 7:30 pm screening of The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke. He stars as Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a has-been wrestler who’s now down on his luck and estranged from his daughter. A heart attack forces him to face his lonely life and relationships.

FETISH FILM: The Fetish Film Night series at the Egyptian’s Spielberg Theatre continues tonight at 7:30 pm with “The Plushies and Furries Program.” Rick Castro, the director of Plushies & Furries, will host an evening of “documentary, film clips and outtakes, furry art and visuals on display and a lively discussion with the audience.” Now an old CSI episode focused on this topic, where “Furries are people who identify with anthropomorphized animals (animals with human characteristics); in some cases they feel that they are, in fact, part animal.”

PERFORMANCE:: We had a broken link in yesterday’s entry, so we’ll try again. The Bootleg Theatre’s “99 Cent Only” show launched last week with the theme: “Calendar Girl Competition.” The audience chooses a new winner each night. But here’s where the 99 comes in – all props and costumes come from the palace of pink and blue neon: 99 Cent Only Stores. The show’s at 8 pm tonight.
