Hugh Jackman Will Host the Oscars

Hugh Jackman to host the Academy Awards/OscarsThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this morning that Austrlian actor Hugh Jackman will host the 81st Academy Awards on Sunday, February 22nd at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. He's presented at the ceremony before, but this will be his first time as a host. "[Jackman] has style, elegance and a sense of occasion," the producers said of the star, who was recently named one of the sexiest men alive by People Magazine, in a joint statement. He's starred in Baz Luhrmann's Australia, the X-Men movies and the upcoming and most anticipated X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Jackman won an Emmy in 2005 for his hosting skills at a Tony Awards ceremony. He also won a Tony in 2004 for Best Actor in a Musical.

I get Hugh Jackman hosting the Tony's, but the Oscars? He's too "stage-y" for it. Please, please, please, bring Steve Martin back!

I can't picture Hugh Jackman making the kind of jokes Billy Crystal or Jon Stewart made. I adore him, but he's an actor, not a host.

Its only because he's nice to look at.

it is a way for them to raise ratings?

Jackman could be a terrific host. It sounds like he doesn't want to do a monologue, which should cut about 20 minutes from the show. I'd expect that he'll do a song-and-dance number, though. He won an Emmy for hosting the Tonys, so that's a good sign.

ugh no
STEVE MARTIN, PLEASE
