- Well its finally happened... LA is going to have to lay off workers because of budgetary reasons for the first time in 25 years. Mayor Tony V has a plan though; a proposal for a $20 million bond as well as selling underused firehouses and libraries and even raising fees to spay and neuter pets (sorry Bob). In a word, the mayor described the budget futures as "bleak".
- The future for some former Circuit City workers however is looking a LOT better...
- A Riverside "man" was sentenced to 965 years for sexually assaulting disabled women. The women were mentally disabled and homeless and offered shelter in exchange for housework and sexual favors.
- A baby koala debuted at the LA Zoo this morning. Koala "Kirrhi" was born in April, then spent six months in momma's pouch before coming out to say hello. Que cute!
- OK the perfect crime. Get into a 7-Eleven, flirt with a lady customer, jump the counter and wrestle with the clerk while your partner grabs the loot. Just make sure you don't get caught on the video camera... awh crap.
- Some 200 OC Social Services Agency workers are also facing layoffs unless the entire staff of 4,000 take two weeks off without pay. Most of the workers are willing to go through with it to save their jobs and the jobs of their buds.
- Ahh everyone's a critic... Carl Reiner is no different. Apparently the food sucked at the Century City Hyatt. Maybe he can grab a meal at the troubled El Coyote. They just want their customers back.
- The state has passed the toughest diesel pollution standard in the country. The state passed it even though there were warning that smaller trucking companies would struggle to keep operating.
- Finally... the moon is supposed to be at its biggest and brightest tonight. Sure the moon is full every month but THIS time astronomers say its supposed to be about 14% larger and 30% brighter (yes they measured)... Hope you noticed.
