As part of a nation-wide event today, gays, lesbians, and supporters thereof are being asked to take the day off to demonstrate solidarity in protest against the passage of California's Prop 8.

The purpose of the day is to dedicate your time to community service and volunteerism instead: "On December 10, you are encouraged not to call in sick to work. You are encouraged to call in gay -- and donate your time to service," explains A Day Without a Gay. "A day without gays would be tragic because it would be a day without love."
