DIGITAL CABARET:
There's a night of Digital Cabaret tonight at 8 pm at Tangier. Now here's your chance at a few minutes of fame. How it works: Bring your video file. Sign up at 8 pm to screen your own video, video art or music video clip. At 8:30, the first video will be shown, judged and scored. The evening’s theme is “Make It Funny” – so make ’em laugh, but keep it under four minutes. The cabaret will be hosted by Josh Fadem and entertainment by Eric Layer. Tickets are $7.
READING:
The Hammer Museum’s “Some Favorite Writers” series continues tonight with Michael Cunningham, the the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award for his novel, The Hours. The film version of the book starred Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep. After Cunningham reads a sampling of his work, there will be a discussion following with series organizer Mona Simpson, author of Anywhere But Here and Off Keck Road.
TALK:
The Santa Monica Museum of Art presents “Name That Tune” with Josh Kun & Leonard Nimoy tonight at 7:30 pm. It’s a “special night of lost music, excavated memory, and forgotten Jewish LPs as Josh Kun talks with the illustrious Leonard Nimoy (aka Dr. Spock from Star Trek).” The discussion is followed by a book signing of Josh Kun and Roger Bennett's And You Shall Know Us by the Trail of Our Vinyl: The Jewish Past as Told by the Records We Have Loved and Lost The event is free, RSVPs are required.
CLASSICAL:
The Huntington Library in San Marino plays host to Camerata Pacifica tonight at 8 pm who’ll perform Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata in D Major, Op. 94 as well as works by Villa-Lobos, Brahams and Huang Ruo.
