Mirage to Unveil New Volcano Today

The Mirage will unveil a new volcano todayToday the results of $25 million upgrade of a Las Vegas Strip icon will be revealed when the volcano outside the Mirage will erupt for the first time since going dormant in February.

The new look volcano show will feature music performed by former drummer for the Grateful Dead, Mickey Hart and Zakir Hussain of India. Created by Wet Designs, the team that created the dancing fountains at the Bellagio, the attraction will feature 120 flamethrowers that will send jets of fire into the sky on cue with Hart and Hussain's percussion-heavy score.

The new volcano will make its debut today at 5 p.m., and can be seen on the hour every night until 11 p.m. Motorcycle daredevil Robbie Knievel will attempt to jump the upgraded lagoon on New Year's Eve.

All the heat coming from the new volcano's flames isn't the only thing heating up Vegas this week, Sin City is also hosting baseball's hot stove with MLB's annual Winter Meetings.
