- Two mountain lion cubs were safely captured in an Inland Empire neighborhood. Residents were relieved and worried. Relieved that the cubs were taken out safely, but worried that Mama Lion would show up.
- Warnings. Reminders. Hints. Call them what you will but another series of "mini quakes" rumbled through LA after the 5.1 tremblor on Friday. We're not panicking or anything but let's face it; there have been a lot of 'em the past couple of months. Hope you learned something from the simulation last month.
- Make your choice... guns or grub. Southern Cali gun owners are turning in their weapons for $100 gift cards that they can use at department stores, electronic stores or grocery stores. Over 500 guns (and two hand grenades!) were turned in for the cards which broke last year's mark of 387 guns.
- After scaring the crap out of some people when it arrived last week, the Space Shuttle Endeavor will leave town for Florida tomorrow.
- Two men who followed winning gamblers home and robbed them, were arrested today. The men are wanted for similar crimes in and around the area including an incident in Orange County.
- Another criminal, from Denmark this time, turned himself in to LAPD. Apparently he is a CEO and the master-mind of a $170 million fraud involving his Danish technology company IT Factory. Local police were skeptical at first, but after conducting an Interpol search, turned him over to federal authorities.
- LA Live just opened but... what next? The economy is affecting the Downtown area even as rebuilding and renewing continue. Quite simply, the people are either not coming or moving out causing rental occupancy rates to plummet in the past 15 months from 98.7% to 85%.
- Finally, 30 years ago this week, LA Weekly hit the streets. Founder Jay Levin offered a little insight to his vision when starting the Weekly. He then gets into a few interesting memories that were gathered along the way and finishes with his current doings and future hopes.
