The Death of a Vegan Restaurant in Silver Lake?

Back in October, The Vegan Spot on Sunset Blvd. put up an ad on Craigslist. It was a "quick sale." You could have your own vegan restaurant for $75,000.

Apparently, it's now closed, vegan blogger Quarrygirl finds. "Maybe i should have seen it coming. the last 3 times we tried to grab food, they were closed," she explained. "first, it was 'due to renovations,' unbeknownst to me. next, a few days later, it was closed 'due to the holidays.' now, it’s just closed due to being fucking closed. for days, the phone has been ringing through to an answering machine. for criminy’s sake, even yelpers have started to notice."

At least Pure Luck is still around. Yummmmm... jackfruit tacos.

I've been wondering about this place. It did seemingly so well in the wake of the failed deli that preceeded it. But yeah, it's been locked down for weeks now. Shame.

Restaurants are a risky venture to begin with, and tons of overhead costs to worry about. A restaurant almost ALWAYS loses money in its first year. If it doesn't break even by the end of the second year, it's time to quit. If it's survived five years, it's passed its trial by fire and can stay for the long run. Other external factors, like city/county requirements or the lease play a huge role too.

I was in there on the last day before they closed. They said they were remodeling and changing the menu & name and would be closed for a month. They assured us that it would still be entirely vegan.

This is a shame - I'd heard only good things about this place. If you follow some links it sounds like they will reopen as a cafe. In the meantime anyone going through withdrawal can try my website, Vegan Eating Out. Vegan Restaurants. I look forward to adding an entry for their new place!
