Stuck in a Plane for 9 Hours at Ontario Airport

elsalvadorflight.jpgAs of two minutes before 9 a.m., "passengers on a flight from El Salvador have been waiting on a Southern California regional airport's tarmac since about midnight after their plane was diverted from Los Angeles International Airport because of heavy fog," according to the Associated Press. The original crew is now over their maximum hours they can fly so a new crew is taking over.

I've taken this route a number of times in my travels and am thankful I wasn't trapped on this flight.
What the news doesn't mention is that 99% of the people in the cabin have a habit of carrying freakin' fried chicken from "Pollo Campero" and other foods with them for their relatives. That cabin must STINK by now.

Even though it's mostly sunny, clear and warm throughout the Southland, from my Pasadena office, I can still see a thick blanket of fog cover the entire southern end of the San Gabriel Valley. Weird.

Angel - Don't they already have Pollo Campero in El Salvador?

Angel: Oops, I meant, aren't they aware we already have Pollo Campero here? Or is the recipe different there?

Re: Pollo Campero...yes, most people are aware! and what is worse, so are the people that ask their relatives to bring it!

People claim the recipe here doesn't taste the same and that the one from El Salvador is better. I don't see how it could be better, unless one thinks that eating fried chicken that's been on a plane for 5+ hours tastes better than fresh fried chicken. What's funnier is that because the chicken is hot and in a box, it gets all "sweaty" from the steam it produces. Crazy people.

Pollo Campero even put in a franchise at the airport in El Salvador to make it easy for people to pick up a box just as they are about to board the plane.

Angel: Interesting insight, thanks. I'm curious to see what the Central American version of Campero is like. It might be the taste of USDA-grade hormonally-fed chicken vs. the Salvadoran-bred chicken, haha. My folks are from the Philippines and the Jollibee burgers taste better out there but I don't know any Filipino who isn't content with the ones available in the Jollibees here. But I guess the 12-14-hour flight across the ocean might have something to do with it. We do stow away pastries and (shhh!) tropical fruits so I totally know about the imported food thing!

This is awful. I can't imagine being stuck on a flight for over 9 hours sitting on the tarmac. There has to be something done in cases like this, like letting passengers off into a waiting area so they can walk around and use a proper restroom. Forcing people into these situations is ludicrous.
