'Your Turkey or Your Life'

With one of the best holiday time videos, the LA Fire Department reminds us of the annual deep-fried Turkey danger. Then, after you survive the tryptophan nap, you hopefully have the KCAL9 Yule Log to look forward to in December.

Maybe deep fat turkey frying should be moved to July the 4th.

maybe you should eat a tofurky instead! :D

The thing about deep fried turkey, it can be very good or very bad.

The best I've had was made by a couple out of New Orleans. They used a marinade injector that looked like a giant hypodermic, made homemade marinade, and really knew what they were doing.

The worst deep fried turkey I've had was oily, nasty, and bland.

I don't think I'd even try it myself after watching that video.

See, this is why I'm making tofurkey sandwiches.

Some one just sent me this si I thought I should post it here.

Deep fried Turkey recipe;

Ingredients
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 medium, chopped onion
6-8 cloves garlic
6 tablespoons mild hot sauce
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
4 tablespoons seasoning salt
2 cups water
1 turkey, thawed if frozen

Marinade
Mix Worcestershire, onion, garlic and hot sauce in blender until liquified. Add prepared mustard, seasoning salt and water. Dry turkey inside and out. With a meat injector, inject 1/2-cup of marinade into each breast, then inject legs, thighs and wings. If desired, also season the turkey with a pinch of cayenne pepper.

Deep-frying
Pour 5 gallons of peanut oil into a pot and heat to 350 degrees. Use a 40- and 60-quart pot and place the turkey into a stainless-steel basket, then lower it very slowly into the oil. The bird's skin immediately turns a crispy gold, then darkens to a deep amber as it cooks. Cook 3.5 minutes per pound. Often the turkey will float slightly when done in its basket when it is lifted for inspection. Remove from pot and allow to cool for 30 minutes.

Safety
Make sure the pot is sufficiently roomy, because a grease fire may result if the oil bubbles over when the turkey is added. Never leave the pot unattended. Be sure to set up away from any flammable materials (such as wood decks).
