db: > Characterizing us Californians as rich snobs

It's a joke db. Get it?

I'm a Californian. And every year this happens and every year my tax dollars go to fire equipment, air tankers, fire-fighters, and homeowners.

All they have to do is clear the brush AS THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS RECOMMEND!!!

What's the friggen problem?!?!?!?

I think it's way past time to start fining people for not clearing brush around their property. And fine them heavily at that.

When was the last major fire in Montecito? Or in the hills above Sylmar? Or in Chino Hills? Are these really places which get burned "year after year"?

Yes, there are fires (along with earthquakes and mudslides) somewhere around this region every year, just as there are hurricanes in the South, floods along the Mississippi, tornadoes throughout the Midwest, and ice storms in New England.

Characterizing us Californians as rich snobs who look forward to an annual conflagration is indeed offensive, especially since it hasn't even been a month since several hundred homes have been burned to the ground.

I'll let you go tell those people how stupid they are.

db: Doesn't it seem odd to you that this happens year after year after year? You'd think someone would learn something in three (or ten) years time. Maybe if the state just stopped "helping people recover" they'd stop building in known problem areas. Ya think?

Or maybe it's too much to ask that modern humans be half as intelligent as our ancient ancestors who learned to stop building in bad locations.

I know The Onion video offended you, but good humor is often based on truth. And the truth is people really should prepare for these fires since they are such a sure thing.

Har har har. I can't wait for the hilarious send-ups of hurricane deaths in the South, and tornado destruction throughout the Midwest, or maybe all those craaaazzzzy kids with guns shooting their classmates.

Seriously, is this any better than making butt-fuck jokes about AIDS victims?
