After a packed-to-the-brim soft opening over the weekend, Stories in Echo Park is now open. The new & used bookstore with a cafe took over the old Sea Level Records space on Sunset Blvd. next to 826's Echo Park Time Travel Mart and near The Echo, where Stories co-owner Liz Garo books music acts for shows.
There's free wifi, locally themed books, Raven's Brew coffee and Breadbar baked goods (sandwiches, soups and other items will soon be added, says Pat at Eating LA). There's a fairly large back alley patio abut plenty of parking in the city lot.

im excited! Do they buy books also? I have a box of books i want to get rid of.
Nobody's got money for books! 6 months before they go out of business, at the very least.
I will ALWAYS have money for books.
But yeah, wonder if they buy used books...I've got an entire second bedroom full of them.
Yeah, gotta have money for books. Plus, if you're giving presents away this holiday season, why not buy at Stories?
I agree Zach. I think everyone should make it a priority to support local stores this holiday season.
I'm also thrilled about the idea of a new, local, independent bookseller. Hope they do great business.
Sh*t. I moved from Echo Park to Silver Lake (bad move) six months ago and the ol' neighborhood just keeps getting better.
It was hard to see Sea Level fold, but nice to have a solid replacement in their space.
If I have to buy every book I get for the next 6 months at this place, so help me secular*, I'll do it.
Seriously.
