Alligator Found on Venice Street

Alligator found in VeniceNo, it wasn't the infamous Reggie, it was a three-foot alligator found in the front yard of a Venice home. "Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station responded to a report of an alligator seen crawling into the bushes at a home in the 200 block of 4th Avenue near Rose Avenue about 1:20 a.m., an LAPD sergeant said," CBS2 reports.

This is the second alligator rescue in less than six months, says LA Animal Services who also note that the reptiles are a restricted species in California and require a State Permit for possession. The gator, reported to be in good health, will be transferred to the Southwest Herpetology Society where it will be put in a proper environment.

My wife found the alligator last night around 1am and we called the police. It was crossing 4th avenue and with all the fog she almost ran over it. One of the officers was able to get it into a trash can and I got some pretty good photos of it.

I've seen some strange things in Venice, but this is by far my favorite.
