FILM: ITVS Community Cinema presents I.O.U.S.A. (2008) at the Aero Theatre tonight at 7:30 pm. “As the Baby Boomer generation prepares to retire, many experts warn that if we continue down this financial road, America will be flat broke in a generation.” (Um really, that long?) “In I.O.U.S.A., Director Patrick Creadon looks at how America must mend its spendthrift ways or face an economic disaster of epic proportions.” Admission is free.
FILM 2: ArcLight Sherman Oaks continues its Tribute to Paul Newman tonight at 7:30 pm with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. See Robert Redford and Newman at the apex of their hotness.
CLASSICAL: Tonight at 8 pm, there’s a program of Kurtág’s “Kafka Fragments” at Walt Disney Concert Hall, featuring Dawn Upshaw, soprano, Geoff Nuttall, violin, Peter Sellars, director, David C. Michalek, photography, James F. Ingalls, lighting designer and Anna Kiraly, costume designer.
TALK*:: The Hammer’s Conversation series continues tonight with Matt Groening and fellow cartoonist Lynda Barry. She’s best known for her Ernie Pook's Comeek and the books One! Hundred! Demons!, The! Greatest! of! Marlys!, Cruddy: An Illustrated Novel, Naked Ladies! Naked Ladies! Naked Ladies! Groening needs no other introduction except for two words: The Simpsons. The event is free and starts at 7 pm.
DIGITAL DRINKS: Tonight at 6 pm at Les Deux is the next round of Digital Drinks, where like-minded people drink and chat all things electronic and entertainment. Bring plenty of business cards and save one for the drawing for cases of Red Bull. A $10 registration fee is required by 3 pm today. No cash will be accepted at the door.
