LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 93-86. With just under six minutes left in the game the Lakers had a 16-point lead. Just a mere 4:30 later the lead shrank to just three thanks to Chris Paul's NBA record seventh consecutive 20-10 game. But Kobe Bryant put the game away making a three-pointer with James Posey draped around him giving the Lakers an 86-80 lead. The Lakers would not be threatened thereafter. I thank the Lakers for making the game exciting while I was driving home from work but would prefer them to help me keep my blood pressure steady. The Lakers are now the only undefeated team at 7-0 and next face Allen Iverson and the Detroit Pistons at Staples on Friday.
UCLA Bruins defeat Prarie View A&M Panthers 82-58. The Bruins start off the season with the 2K Sports Classic against the Panthers in a dominating win. Freshman guard Jrue Holliday making a start for the Bruins went 2-for-5 behind the arc en route to his 11-point performance. Senior guard Darren Collison led the Bruins scorers with 19 points going 2-for-3 behind the arc. One point of concern for the Bruins were the 24 turnovers.
Sacramento Kings defeat LA Clippers 103-98. The Kings without Kevin Martin relied on Beno Udrih to do the scoring leading all scorers with 30 points. The Clippers meanwhile could not stop him all night and played from behind all night. Although the Clips showed promise Sunday afternoon getting their first win against the Mavericks, they seemed to regress yet again missing an opportunity to get a win against an injured team. A team without an identity? It sure seems like it.
Tonight's Action
Miami (OH) Redhawks at UCLA Bruins. The Bruins take on Miami of Ohio in the second round of the 2K Sports Classic. 8:00 pm ESPNU, AM 1150 KTLK.
LA Kings at Dallas Stars. The Kings look to take a sweep of the home-and-home series against the Stars. 5:30 pm FSN West, AM 1150 KTLK.

The Lake Show got off to a great start. Their D was solid throughout... that is until CP3 decided to go off (16 points in the 4th??? Just sick...) Bynum made his presence felt with 4 blocks and Fish was just stupid from outside (4-6 from 3pt land) Forget the fact that NOLA made it interesting. They are a great team. Revel in the fact that the Lakers can have a crappy shooting day but still have 5 players in double figures, and get away with a win.
Also... two of the last three times the Lakers were the last undefeated team, they won the NBA Championship (2001-'02 and 1987-'88). You know... just sayin'.
Is it just me or is Kobe Bryant totally 'carrying' the ball in that picture? I've not watched the NBA in a long time, is traveling no longer against the rules?
DHeckler, you've obviously not been watching long enough. I'm pretty sure you can handle the ball for 2 steps. Maybe, they've change that rule, who knows.
