Indeed, the Arkansas initiative banned adoption for any unmarried couples, gay or straight. Nothing to do with marriage. Also, sexual preference? I'm personally not offended, but "sexual orientation" is the standard, neutral wording.

Arkansas didn't ban gay marriage this election (though I have no doubt they did a long time ago). A voter initiative banned "single people" from adopting children or acting as foster parents. I don't know the exact wording of the ballot initiative, but the pro-side was very blatant about the fact that their target was the gay community: they intended adoption of children by homosexuals specifically to be infeasible. But thanks for the info. I was looking for info on the protest this weekend.
