SCV Skaters Say So Long, Farewell

Tom Hanks told his team in A League of Their Own that there's no crying in baseball, but what about in skateboarding?
Sadly, for Santa Clarita skaters, the end is nigh for the popular Skate Park at the Sports Complex, which is going to close down on Monday, November 17th as it makes way for a new skate park. A press release sent out today describes the new 40,000 square foot space:
The highly anticipated, state-of-the-art Skate Park will include large bowls, a Street Plaza, ‘Over-vert’ Capsule, a Snake Run, and much more! Skaters and their friends should look for the opening of the new Skate Park in the spring of 2009.
So why the tears? Well, the Skate Park will host a "wake" to mourn the temporary loss of the facility. Planners estimate "that hundreds of skaters will come out to show their slick-moves to be judged by sponsors, who will give out prizes and promotional items.""The Wake" will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the soon-to-be closed Skate Park (20850 Centre Pointe Parkway).
