Veteran KCRW deejay and longtime station Music Director Nic Harcourt has announced he will be stepping down as head music man and scaling back his on-air duties. From a press release:
After 10 successful years as host of Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW’s signature music program, KCRW Music Director Nic Harcourt is stepping down November 30 to pursue several independent projects. Harcourt will continue as a KCRW deejay, hosting a 3-hour show on Sundays from 6-9 pm.Harcourt explains his thoughts on his years with KCRW and his hopes for the future of his time on the airwaves at 89.9: “I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to come to work every day and be surrounded by creative and passionate people and I want to keep the connection alive on my Sunday show." He continues, “As a parent of two young children, I believe it’s time for me to explore new career opportunities and expand upon my other activities in movie, television, voice over work, advertising and the Internet.”
KCRW General Manager Ruth Seymour says they are actively seeking candidates to fill Harcourt's rather large and influential shoes.
LAist interviewed Harcourt as Morning Becomes Eclectic celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, as well as shared the deejay's Top Ten album pics for 2007.

Hopefully they bring someone in with a little less of a fondness for the Hotel Cafe-type snoozers...
It's about time. Now I might stay tuned to KCRW after 9 am, then again, probably not, I still prefer KPCC programing.
I always get the idea KCRW is trying to get me to buy something. That's especially true during Morning Becomes Eclectic. It seems they push bands with new releases or who are playing locally.
Nic Harcourt better start disclosing his financial interestsin the music hes playing on kcrw its called payola http://www.kxlu.com the only college radio station that matters
this is change i can believe in.

buy something like a concert ticket or a cd? What a terrible thing to buy. Obviously there is a constant pitch to fundraise (not just during drives) but that is what happens when the government does not support public radio.
Of all the things you can criticize Nic for one of them is NOT that he doesn't passionately support artists.
it's the end of an era but I look forward to a new beginning with a new Music Director. I nominate Anne Litt. She's is awesome, inclusive, has great taste. It would be interesting to see how a woman in that role would be different (if at all).
Anne Litt would be great. How about Jonesy?
YES TO FUCKING ANNE LITT!!!!
I mean....I agree with FranklinStubbs. ANNE LITT for Director!
Yes, Anne Litt, or Tricia Halloran.
Oh goody. Maybe Nic can narrate some more Land Rover commercials.
Can't say as I'll miss him much; I've been highly underwhelmed by MBE's playlist for some years now. Anne Litt would be a good choice, and there was a guy who filled in a few times recently that had some good music choices too.
I don't know how many more giddy changes I can take in one month.
Anne Litt or Garth Trinidad
I nominate Joshua Pressman.
Andy, I firmly second that motion.
But, if KCRW is foolish enough to overlook our Music man (and if we can selfishly keep him) I agree, Anne Litt would be my top in-house pick.
Maybe the Mornings will be more Eclectic, less lethargic now...

I hope you are kidding about Jonesy. I would consider hanging myself if I had to listen to that guy on KCRW
I was going to say bring back Tricia Halloran but someone already mentioned it. Brave New World was a great, great show.
I nominate Rosie Swash or Laura Barton from across the pond - Music Weekly is barely an hour and better than most shows on KCRW right now.
Good. Finally. Please take your run-of-the-mill crappy pop music and bad euro downtempo with you. Nic Harcourt, you were the worst radio DJ I have ever heard.
Casey Kasem!
I could handle KCRW, but could KCRW handle me?
