As a dog lover and a previous owner of a german shepard, a pitbull, and current of two siberian huskeys,this obviously saddens me that a puppy had to die. On the other hand - has anyone here SEEN a 6 month old German Shepard? It appears here that everyone seems to think the "puppy" would be equivalent to a jack russell (a small dog). A 6 month old german shepard is HUGE compared to small dogs. HUGE. Make no mistake, this is NOT a small dog, yes they have teeth - sharp teeth - and they normally don't know their own strength - although in this case since the dog didn't let go, he probably knew how strong he was. I have a scar from when my huskey was a puppy (don't remember his age) but we were playing around and he bit my hand, did not let go and used my hand as his rope (like tug a rope). It was very painful, and luckily mom had a squirt bottle which used to scare him, but I'd imagine if she wasn't around, I would probably have to hit him (of course, probably not to death). But I digress - the point is, the dog would be strong enough to do some serious damage, and this guy may only have been trying to defend himself. I'd say it's more important to find out what set the puppy off - was it because he was being returned home? Or did the guy do something?

this guy is trash. he felt threatened by a puppy? please. then what's he doing working in public safety? he should be fired and jailed where he'll see what's it's like being a bitch.

Even if this guy wouldn't hurt a human, he's still a scumbag, if in fact, his only wound could be covered with a band-aid. Maybe the fact that'd he'd kill a puppy but not someone his own size makes him worse in a way. I don't know, it's just a sad story.

6 month old puppy? Did it even have its adult teeth yet? Puppy bites hurt, but god, not enough to warrant a rock beating. Or a beating.

I feel the need to point out that if a dog is biting you and you can't make it let go, push down on its tongue. That will automatically make it open its mouth. And doesn't involve rocks.

Excessive violence against animals does not necessarily imply someone would be violent to humans, but it is often found to be a precedent. And yes, please fix typo, it is in fact in the ABC story a 6 month old puppy. The fire chief now has to wear a band aid due to the "vicious attack" in which he was compelled to kill the animal for his own safety. What a fucking ass.
