Word spread like wildfire yesterday online about the arrests of Mark Oshiro and Rich Flores, who may be better known to you as Panasonicyouth and formerme--their online IDs for Twitter and other websites.
The plight of these two men attracted the attention of news outlet ABC7, and by yesterday evening had interviewed the pair and aired the segment on the 11 p.m. news. How did ABC7 know about Oshiro and Flores? Through Twitter; a reader posted a reply to @abc7 via the service! Because of the power of online communities, including the LAist readership, Oshiro and Flores have been able to raise funds to cover the cost of their bail and to put towards their legal fees.
ABC7 Tweeted yesterday that we can all expect to see more use of Twitter on their news broadcasts in the future. To help out Oshiro and Flores, information on how to is available via Oshiro's Buzznet blog.

Panasonicyouth is awesome!
With clear video of the driver and punch thrown I have one question. Why hasn't he been arrested and charged with assault?
panasonicyouth is totally awesome and yes why haven't charges been made against the assaulter?
