Two years, $55 million? Really Ned?
I really hope Ned Colletti and the Dodgers don’t think we’re going to buy it when they say they made every attempt to sign Manny Ramirez.
Granted he’s not a spring chicken, but Manny has shown no signs of wearing down. When pitchers were pitching around him during the playoffs, he still managed to get his share of hits. So if you’re going to make a serious attempt at Manny, at least give him a serious offer.
He’s said that he wants a six-year deal. So give him a four year deal with an option for the fifth.
I don’t see what the problem is.
Oh wait. This is an organization run by Frank McCourt. So of course rather than come straight out with what he wants to do, he will take us on a course straight out of Magellan. It goes like this: highly coveted free agent expresses interest in playing for the Dodgers; the Dodgers make a ridiculous low-ball offer; free agent rejects offer and signs with the Mets or the Yankees; Dodgers overpay for another free agent who is falling apart and is unwanted by every other team.
All the while the Dodgers will ride on the backs of the kids with their rookie contracts. Then when their contracts expire, repeat the above process.
I really hope this doesn’t happen to Manny. We’ve all witnessed what he’s done for the Dodgers. Many will say, “Look what he did to the Red Sox.”
Well if I’m not mistaken he was hitting .398 with an OPS of .927 and 20 homers with the Red Sox earlier in the season.
So Colletti, make a serious offer to Manny. If he rejects it, fine. But this two year nonsense is a joke and frankly is a very transparent and patronizing attempt to cover up the fact that you have no intention of signing Manny to begin with.

I am glad you aren't GM for the dodgers. You obviously have no knowledge of how it all works!
yup...i disagree. the longest contract i'd give that guy is 3 years, and that's with lots of performance incentives. He gave us a great 3 months, but was basically playing his ass off for his big pay day. his agent is the devil, and she be treated as such.
There is no way you can sign him for more than 2 years with an option for a 3rd. Give him $50-$55 for those 2 years but anything longer is suicide. How is Barry Zito doing? Imagine if we had given Andruw Jones 5 years $75 instead of 2 years 36. Short contracts for more money are the way to go.
Manny is NOT gonna get a six year deal. I think a 3 year deal with an option for a fourth would be OK. If he doesnt work out somehow you could always send him to the AL where frankly he is more valuable with his shaky glove. Manny was sick when he was here for the stretch run. How that translates over an entire season or more is anyone's guess. I would feel a lot better about dealing with him if his agent wasnt the Devil.
Pro sports are lame.
$55,000,000 for two years for a grown man to play a boys game... sucks.
Really?
If someone wants to pay him more, awesome for him, but I will never give damn about these people.
he's already done more FOR FREE this year to well make up for the money it costs to keep him for a year or two. 4 years is not too terrible if the dodgres dont tax him like theyve been doing while not paying him anything.
I don'tk now why they are so hesitant to throw money at him when they were so easy to part iwth money for andruw jones, jason schmidt, and juan pierre. really? REALLY?
