How about a rally instead of a protest @ the First AME Church in LA? If another community is going to understand the Civil Rights angle, it's the Black Community.

I'm just happy my girlfriend, Karen, and I were able to bail out Rich (@formerme) with the help of a bondsman. We were in and out of the LAPD Pacific Division waiting for info on them both for nearly 4 hours before we saw either one of them. If it wasn't for Mark's brother, Mike, we wouldn't have been able to get them BOTH out.

That is indeed the same gentleman, and also one of the members of the Midnight Ridazz cycling team I was captain of in last years AIDS LifeCycle event. We collectively raised $56,000 for charity. This is not someone just looking to be a trouble maker as I'm sure the TV coverage made it appear.

queequeg - There a handful of protests happening around the country this weekend. Many are being coordinated via Facebook and word is spreading fast through Twitter. Last one I heard was in Chicago this weekend. So it's definitely happening as more light is shed on what's happened.

ishXdavid - I completely agree that these protests need to be taken to places that voted in favor of prop 8. To be fair, though, last night's rally/march started at the Mormon Temple on the Westside, which we all now know played a significant part in bankrolling the entire Yes on 8 campaign. But, it's too easy of a scapegoat; as you say, the fight needs to be taken to other homophobic areas as well.

PLEASE!!!! If this is going to be the Gay Community's CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, then please adopt the CIVIL disobedience practices of MARTIN LUTHER KING JR., not the incendiary ones of Malcolm X or the Black Panthers. The protests from two nights ago were inspiring. Last night, it was just ugly. It's going to be difficult to win the hearts and minds of people with unruly behavior and by antagonizing the opposition. The fight was lost when ethnic minorities voted for Prop 8. WE are the advocates of diversity and multiculturalism. Homosexuality is taboo in their culture. Take the protests to SOUTH LA and EAST LA and show them that they have nothing to fear. Don't waste time and energy in West Hollywood or the Westside because the choir doesn't need to be preached to.
