Last week LAist visited the Campo Gorilla Reserve and took photos of the amazing Kelly, Rapunzel, Evelyn, Hasani, Jabari, and baby Glenda. Watching these Western lowland gorillas interact with each other, climb trees, and check out the visitors is worth a trip to the zoo anyday.
Zoo Director, John Lewis describes the goals of the new gorilla exhibit at the LA Zoo.
Historically, gorillas have been a major part of the L.A. Zoo. Right now is an extremely critical time for gorillas in the wild as they are facing the challenge of both habitat destruction and being hunted in the bushmeat trade. Campo Gorilla Reserve will allow the L.A. Zoo to explain to our visitors why gorillas are endangered, what we can do to help them and instill in them the passion to care about these great apes.
Ape Awareness Day is on November 9 from 10am-4pm at Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Julie, why do you have to harass the apes like this? Don't you know that one day they will get out and they've got your number?
