2 Bodies Found in Shallow Grave in Downtown Near Silver Lake; Police Search for 'Person of Interest'

Following the gruesome discovery of two bodies in a shallow grave in the backyard of a home near Downtown*. The two men "appear to have been killed by blows from a blunt instrument," reports abc7.com. Police are working to locate Ronald Mendez; the 21-year-old lives at the home where the bodies were found, which is on the 2800 block of London Street. Authorities believe the victims may be Mendez's father and uncle, and "are calling [him] a person of interest and warn that he is considered armed and dangerous." *Mapping and new articles published about the case confirm that initial reports citing the location as "Downtown" were broad in scope; the location is, indeed, closer to Silver Lake.

Wait, where in downtown is this?

Scary. :(

I was wondering the same thing.

Google Mapping 2800 London St points to an area right below the 101, between Silverlake Blvd and Alvarado. I wouldn't call that 'Downtown'

Holy shit, that's three blocks south of where I live!

And I'm pretty sure the house involved just recently (in the last year-plus) underwent an extensive remodel.

Media thinks everything east of Vermont is downtown. I've only lived here 2 years and only learned neighborhoods by walking around in them (i don't own a car) and really studying maps and articles -- some of which I stumbled on here on LAist. thanks neighborhood project! =)

Eep. That is entirely too close to where I live.
