Let's face it. Ever since Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverly Hills first filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Famous Cupcakes in Valley Village over the use of a modern circle, people had to give the competitor a try. What happened? Business went up for the Valley Village storefront, according to employees, as many cupcake fans discovered they liked Famous better (us included).
Famous was using a circle-within-a circle (dot within a dot) theme on their packaging and walls, which Sprinkles uses on their cupcakes and claims they trademarked in 2007 (but wait, although she has closed shop, Leda's Bakery in Sherman Oaks did similar things on her cupcakes years before 2007, maybe Sprinkles copied her?). Today, Sprinkles will ask a judge to stop Famous. Whatever the outcome, one thing is for sure: Famous is better than Sprinkles. It just seems like someone is jealous that Famous' Desiree Adl perfected the moistness of the cake.

Personally I like Crumbs, but after reading this I have got to check out Famous. Sounds like a great place to buy a cupcake with or without the dot!
I seriously doubt such a common geometric symbol as a circle can be trademarked.
Too bad the main top menu of links on the Famous Cupcakes website doesn't work... makes it impossible to find out where they are or any other info. I'm in Valley Village and never even heard of this place!
Yeah, it is a pretty ghetto website. At least they make up for it in awesome cupcakes (not vegan though!)

I think this isn't going to end in Sprinkles favor...
The key point in a copyright suit is damages, and they will have to prove that the use of a dot within a dot by a competitor has misled the public into thinking Famous was Sprinkles, (Highly unlikely) and thus losing income as a result.
damn, now you got me craving vegan cupcakes! i wish i could try these places, but none are vegan! ARGH. i have had major cupcake pangs ever since leda's shut. :(
thanks for the link BTW. :p
quarrygirl, there is a woman in the valley who makes vegan cupcakes by order only. They are EXCELLENT. I'll try to dig up the info and post about it.

But they are organic.
Their peanut butter chip cupcake is my personal favorite.
zach - that would be AWESOME. i love cupcakes.

Well, I'm in less serious doubt, but if anyone, w/r/t circles in circles, Target got there first, right?
If Famous had named their company Sparkles Cupcakes and had the image of a dot, then maybe Sprinkles would have a case. But really how would you mistake one for the other.
i love sprinkles. it does sprinkle your day up! its soo good, but i dont get it that much i mean a little in a lifetime
idk i like two cupcake places the first one is from wolfes market and then sprinkles.
