PERFORMANCE: CalArts hosts Javanese choreographer, dancer and filmmaker Sardono W. Kusumo in “Of Volcanoes and Rocks” for an evening of music and dance. Kusumo is joined by CalArts master musicians to “forge new links across Hindustani, Indonesian and Western performance practices.” The performance starts tonight at 8:30 pm at REDCAT. Tickets are $20 (students $16).
’80s FILM CLASSICS*: LACMA and AFI FEST 2008 are screening the films of French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin. “His thrilling, unpredictable films are generous mélanges of exuberant comedy, alert realism, philosophical probing, behavioral drama, Greek tragedy and breathless technique.” Up tonight at 7:30 pm at LACMA is La Sentinelle, a geo-political espionage thriller.
CABARET: Who says Halloween had to end on Friday night? Lili Barsha brings her “Haunted Cabaret” and “Election Eve Brew Ha-Ha!” to the MET Theatre tonight at 8 pm. About a dozen cabaret performers will celebrate “the end of the Bush Whack, with song, dance, chills and thrills…this is a Peace Pow-Wow for hopeful change!” Admission is $10 if you come in costume and $15 otherwise.
THEATRE: Listen to the play “The Rivalry” with Paul Giamatti and David Strathairn online as they do justice to the relationship between two senators – Lincoln and Douglas – in the middle of a presidential campaign. The Rivalry" will be streamed for one week at http://www.scpr.org/programs/latw .
