Halloween with Feed a Model @ Ecco

On Halloween night, the model/artists of Feed A Model hosted an eco-friendly evening of art, fashion, and charity. Feed a Model benefits Global Green USA. All of the artwork uses Low & Zero VOC paints, and natural and recycled materials. The models who created the art were dressed by eco-friendly designer Deborah Lindquist as different themed princesses Some of the larger artworks were auctioned off live. According to the press release, "The lucky winners of these pieces will also get a dinner date with the gorgeous models..." Hmmm.

We missed the live auction, so we can't report on the slightly creepy 'date auction" situation. In spite of being eco-friendly, Ecco was not very user-friendly so we didn't dawdle. From the press release:

Hollywood's newest hot-spot, Ecco, located at 1640 N Cahuenga Blvd, was designed by Beau Robb, mastermind behind some of Hollywood's most celebrated clubs such as Area and Privilege. It will be one of the nation's first Eco-friendly L.E.E.D. certified venues. The nightclub is constructed of recycled and renewable resources, uses green power, has neutralized carbon emissions and energy efficient insulation. There will also be free valet service for hybrid vehicles. Even the bathrooms feature flush-less toilets, Dyson "Airblade" hand dryers, and organic cleansers and hand soaps.

We were greeted at the door by velvet rope bruisers with major 'tude. There were some nice people hanging out, but the room was fairly empty. As the evening wore on, we did meet a few cool model/artists. We did not, however, want to pay for bottle service just for the right to sit down, so we hit a pretty hasty retreat. But not before the eco-friendly Airblade hand dryers scared the hell out of me. You have to put your hands all the way into them, and I was afraid if I told a lie it would bite my hands off.

According to the press release, "The event is sponsored by Gen Lux Magazine, a luxurious publication dedicated to style and beauty." I don't know what exactly the sponsorship included, since there were no complimentary food or beverages - oh, wait - there was a bowl of Halloween candy.

We wish we could say nicer things - it was a charity event. The model/artists seemed to have the best intentions. And Ecco, well, it's a nice idea. But the last thing Hollywood needs is another place that charges you 500 dollars to sit down. Maybe next year I'll pick out my guest's costume and make them come dressed as a chair.

Ecco. Jesus H. Christ. I've never felt so uncool at a place that had so little to offer. But on the plus side, I did gain an insight into why the Kardashians are so popular.

Americans have always had an attraction to the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. It's based on the premise that these peoples' lives are more glamorous than ours. And sure, in some ways they are... their food is better, their views are nicer, their cars' engines are quieter than ours. Paying $500 for an Alain Ducasse meal is way outside my reality, but I could imagine doing it if I had the money and the food really was that good. There's a qualitative difference there that anyone could pick out, even if they wouldn't realistically pay that kind of money for ANY dinner.

What's new, and wholly unappetizing, is this attraction to wild squandering, utterly moronic wastefulness. This is about paying $500 for $75 worth of drinks, with the sole difference being that only other people who can afford to vomit up cash like that are allowed in the room.

But on the plus side, they built their bullshit pad out of recycled materials. The trees must be grateful they didn't have to be cut down for the purpose of perpetuating this crap.
