5 Dead in Long Beach, Police have Few Clues

long beach murdersAn anonymous phone call alerted police Sunday morning to a murder scene in a makeshift homeless encampment alongside the 405 freeway in a dense brush-filled patch of land in Long Beach. The victims--two women and three males-- appear to be homeless, but have not been officially identified. They were all shot, some multiple times.

Police say they know the anonymous tipster knows more and have been using the media to try to get him to come forward. "If you are listening to me out there, please come forward . . . for the sake of their families," said Long Beach Deputy Police Chief Robert Luna.

The incident may have happend around 12:15 a.m. when some neighbors heard what they said sounded like fireworks. Around the same time, someone described hearing a man and a woman saying "Get in the car! Get in the car! Let's go!"
