Ugh... Watch the video news report from last night's CBS2 news:
"I know if we had done it with Barack Obama, people would've probably thrown things through our windows," [creator of the display Chad Michael] Morrisette said. "The image of a hanged black man is a lot more intense than the image of a hanged white woman -- for our country -- in the history of our country." [...]CBS/KCAL is the only network to report on this, even though it was pointed out as early as Thursday by WeHo News. The display is on this house at the corner of Fountain Avenue at Orange Grove."It should be seen as art and it should be seen within the month of October. It is Halloween. It's time to be scary. It's time to be spooky,"
Morrisette said.

you know what's in poor taste? Nominating an incompetent, crooked dumb-ass to potentially the second highest office in the land.
I'm sure whoever did that will love getting investigated by the FBI, since she is the vp candidate in all.
I don't even think the fact this is political speech will save whoever did this....
I've actually heard about this before. It's been up for a week or two. I can't believe this person has gotten away with it so long.
Listen, I'm really, ultra liberal. Like, way far to the left of the current US Democratic Party. But I also think everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, even a crazy, inexperienced woman-hater like Sarah Palin. The Right will have a field day with this. Can't our political system be based on mutual respect?
Yep, the right blogosphere is most certainly jumping on this. Check out the chain of blogs referencing the CBS story here.
Good way to make yourself a target for those ultra right wing conservitive republicans who support the right to carry a gun and the right to use it.
Classy.
Ugh, I know it seems as though we liberals are held to a higher standard (especially as of late) but this is an example of the reason why we often WANT it that way...
Fail.
Noose, schmoose. What would be scarier is McCain in a casket and Palin in the Oval office.
(god forbid.)
Well, it just hit my Reuters feed.
Total fail... Jeez how dumb.
oh Weird! Check out this video of Sarah Palin in West Hollywood!

That idiot should be getting a visit from the secret service pretty soon.
I respect that we all have the right to freedom of speech. However, with that right comes responsibility. While these residents have the legal right to the display of Senator McCain and Governor Palin, I strongly oppose political speech that references violence - real or perceived. Politics in America has become extremely polarized in recent years and we all have a responsibility to focus on our political differences in a thoughtful, and peaceful manner. I urge these residents to take down their display and find more constructive ways to express their opinion.
Mayor Jeffrey Prang
City of West Hollywood
Yeah, it's in poor taste. Yeah, it's stooping to "their" level. You know what? I really don't give a shit anymore. This guy is doing what every semi-intelligent American wants to do. We just don't do it because of the ramifications. Kudos for having the balls to go through with it.
Fuck Palin and fuck all of her lobotomized constituents. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs until the proselytization begins. You don't want abortion to be an option for your kids? Whatever. You don't want abortion to be an option for my kids? Go fuck yourself.
Since we’ve yet to see even a handful of residents gather in protest, the WeHo community is obviously a-okay with this style of highly nuanced misogyny …just so long as the target is a Republican.
Duly noted.
And though I appreciate the mayor's comments here, a more public admonishment, say in front of some KCAL9 news cameras, would go a long way towards substantiating WeHo's claim as a city of "tolerance and diversity".
It's a federal offense to threaten a Presidential (or VP) candidate. Whether this is actually a "threat", you can be sure this person will be getting a visit by the FBI. Dumb idea.
Let's see. High fence, bars on the windows, roof most likely patched by the same home owner threatening a Presidential candidate.
I'll bet until now, his neighbors thought it was the economy hurting their property values.
"It's a federal offense to threaten a Presidential (or VP) candidate."
Too all of you ready to call the Dept. of Homeland Security and pack these folks off to Guantanimo. Burning and/or hanging an effigy is free speech. Besides, people on the right are just as likely to do it as people on the left.
TUA, surprise, suprise, Republicans do not have the market cornered on jackasses or inappropriate hate speech. As to your new found victimhood, gimme a break.
Thanks, jrb.
I can always count on you to prove my point.
jrb:
Read the next sentence - "Whether this is actually a "threat"..."
I never said it was a threat, only that it could be interpreted as such (especially by agencies like the FBI). I also didn't say it was illegal to hang effigies.
You also don't realize that Free Speech has it's limits - "yelling fire in a theatre" kind of idea.
You're welcome TUA.
Juaquin, I wasn't singling you out.
My first sentence was; "To all of you...", a number of people have stated that this is a hate crime that will land these guys in jail.
Sorry, but however stupid and inappropriate, this is still free speech.
JOIN ME TO PROTEST FREE SPEECH AS WELL
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion that is why are fathers, grandfathers, sons , and daughters continue to fight. There however the right to protest free speech that you do not agree is in the best interest or depicts violence and hate. I personally do not agree with Palin's politics and will not vote for her, however that does not give me the right to depict the death of another human being in a violent manor. Can you imagine how you would feel if you woke up and saw a picture of your mother hanging from a rope? How must her children feel today? We, "Caucasians" found nothing wrong for many years of hanging of our slaves and rallied and celebrated around the trees. The hangings were real, wrong and senseless acts of murder. Had not one person taken that first step, voiced that first word that it was wrong it could still be common place today. I have emailed the West Hollywood Major and City Council office to request information on the law/ordinance surrounding protesting in West Hollywood. Once all the information and permit if needed is gathered, I to will exercise my right to free speech to disagree with this and organize a protest around it. If you would like information please email me at responsiblefreespeech@live.com
