LAPD Gears Up for Possible Pre-Election Terrorist Threat

lapd_election_terrorism.jpg"If Bin Laden wants to engineer a late-October surprise in 2008, an attack on a significant American economic target may be one of the most tempting opportunities he has had in recent years," wrote LAPD Chief Bratton in a New York Daily News op-ed today. Co-written with R.P. Eddy, former director of counter-terrorism at the National Security Council, they say Bin Laden may be seeking to sway the election towards the McCain/Palin camp since they would more "likely to engender Muslim anger and resentment than would his opponent."

Locally, the LA Times finds that the LAPD "has been 'gearing up for some time' for the November elections," according to the head of the department's anti-terrorism bureau, Deputy Chief Michael Downing. "Surveillance teams have been concentrated in the city's financial district, he said. Communication with private security groups has also increased, and the department's area commanders were briefed last week on the need to keep their officers vigilant, Downing said."

If Bin Laden is voting for McCain, I'm definitely NOT.

And we thought Obama had questionable supporters.

link, do you believe everything you read?

it could also be said that terrorists would support a democrat, especially one who is likely to appease or withdraw troops. When militant groups don't have to play defense, they can spend more time planning their offense. (i.e. Al Qaeda during the 1990s)

but my personal belief is that these groups don't care who is running America. any notion that Bin Laden (we don't even know if he's alive) supports McCain or Obama is conjecture.

Chief Bratton is starting to sound like a blow-hard to me. First the Lindsay Lohan comment and now this gem.

Oh Silly RyRy... calm down buddy. There are these things called jokes and I think they were invented in the 14th century. You just fell victim to one. Egg... meet face.

"Argggg, Bin Laden wants Obama to win so that they can work on their offense instead of having to play defense - and next year when they recruit a big man, they'll totally be able to play a box and one, and then there's no way that America controls the post anymore. But they're still gonna have to run hard, and play a fast-break transition defense if they want to outlast Europe. Darn terrorists and their 3-point shot. So stellar.

Juice Box Bratton should've just said "Vote for Obama" and saved us on his "the sky is falling" scare tactics.

Can't wait unit Walter Moore kicks his ass to the curb.

I bet Bin Laden is dead. When the hell was the last time we have heard from him anyway??

Besides, our gov. has no incentive to say he's dead. If they did, wouldn't that mean the end of their 'war on terror' and the widespread war profiteering?
