It’s almost the end of October in LA LA land and we know you’re counting down the days until Halloween! Here are some festivals to help you prep for the Great Pumpkin's arrival:
Enjoy the last night of Diwali 2008. The Indian New Year Festival of Lights concludes tomorrow (Oct. 24) in Beverly Hills. It starts at 6 pm and features a jewelry exhibition, henna artists, Indian dancers, live music and a comedy show. Party on after hours from 11 pm- 2 am where a DJ and professional drummer will provide tunes suitable for moving your body like a snake charmer.
The 13th Annual Shipwrecked Halloween Terrorfest on the Queen Mary is guaranteed to "scare the ship out of you" this weekend, starting at 7 pm on Friday. If you’ve ever visited this historically haunted vessel during the day then you know it’s already frightening enough! Just imagine what the deadly spirits might conjure up when dusk turns to night and vampires and ghouls hunt you down in one of the eerie mazes. If you make it out alive, then boogey down with the un-dead at the dance party in the old boiler room. Live "possessed" punk rock acts are also scheduled to perform. Venture down to the LBC for this evil event at your own risk…MWA-HAHAHAHA…
ACToberfest 2008 celebrates its 6th birthday amid growing popularity in Santa Monica on Friday at 8 pm. This is a play festival where you can watch eight different 10-minute plays created by writers and directors from around the country. Afterwards you can chat them up with intelligent questions about “War Letters” or “Sea of Disappointment” -- just two of the shorts that will be featured.
The 14th Annual Kidspace Pumpkin Festival is this weekend, starting bright and early on Saturday at 9:30 am. Pack up the kiddies and head off (haha, get it?) to Pasadena where they can enjoy a two-day, candy-fueled fest complete with face painting, a pumpkin patch and some ‘kindie-rock’ tunes that caps off with a costume parade. Pat yourself on the back on the way home because your rug-rat had the most authentic Sarah Palin costume as the 'lil pumpkin head sleeps off his/her sugar high in the back seat.
