250-Acre Fire Burns in Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga

A wildfire that began at 12:45 a.m. northwest of Interstate 15 and north of the Foothill Freeway in the hills of Fontana has grown to 250-acres, prompting the voluntary evactuation of about 100 homes and the closure of two schools.

30 mph Santa Ana winds later pushed the blaze, named the Foxborough Wildland Fire, into mountains and canyon areas near Rancho Cucamonga. A red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service is expected to end on Friday evening.

A smoke advisory and unhealthy air quality alert has issued for parts of San Bernardino and eastern Los Angeles Counties by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. "All individuals are urged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary
outdoor activities in any area directly impacted by smoke," they warn. "This includes
areas where residents can see or smell smoke."
