California $3 Billion in the Red

state-money-bad.jpgThe budget may have passed, but the economy worsened and the state grew more in debt prompting Gov. Schwarzenegger to call legislators back to work before the Nov. 30 end of session: From LAT: "The state budget, passed in September, is already at least $3 billion in the red. Analysts expect that deficit to grow as revenue continues to plunge amid economic uncertainty. Lawmakers would be asked by the governor during a special session to consider emergency cuts and possible tax increases. Administration officials say they are working on the plan they will present." If taxes are raised, that can't be good for Measure R, the LA County proposal of raising the sales tax one half-cent for transportation projects.

Did anyone see how much we are paying out on our bonds? I thought I heard it was 4 or 5 %.

Another Republican asking for tax increases? Shocking!

These guys just can't do anything right.

Anyone know what The Governator agreed to pay Enron; bet it was too much.

"Did anyone see how much we are paying out on our bonds? I thought I heard it was 4 or 5 %."

I'm a bit confused by that as well.

If you read the fine print on Prop 10, a $5 billion bond translates into $9.2 billion paid back over 30 years.

So how can the TV ads say that it won't raise taxes?

I was inquiring about the bonds the controller issued this month to raise money for the budget for 2009, or relation to this post, of which clearly was not enough to fund California.

Anybody?

I'm not sure about that yet, scotyosh.

But jrb,

"So how can the TV ads say that it won't raise taxes?"

TV ads fall under the 1st amendment, which includes the right to lie and mislead. What you should pay attention to is the ballot guide sent to you at home. What's printed there is more truthful since that's where sides duke it out and bring "facts" to judges to approve or not. Still learning more on this issue, it's very interesting.

See the McCain campaign for details.
