SUPPORT THE ALTERNATIVE
Designers & Agents, an indie fashion marketing company, is currently showing their spring line exclusively at the New Mart and Cooper Design Space downtown. This show is based on sustainable design and will feature several of the leading fashion designers in this field. The company brings together over 1,000 different collections to the forefront of the industry. They hope to be completely fashion-forward in a very community-based way.
PLAY AT THE AQUARIUM
It may be October, but it's hot, so that means you should be heading west to the beautiful ocean just miles away from us. San Pedro offers you that and more, like their Autumn Sea Fair at the Cabrillo Aquarium. This free event will include plenty for everyone in the family. There will be sand sculpting, face painting, fireboat displays, and marine animal-related events. There will also be a ton of educational stalls on animals and the environment. Have fun and get educated under the sun.
CHECK OUT SOME WAVES
The Getty Villa Theater Lab will host a special showing of Surf Orpheus: Music, Movement, & Myth this evening. The Theater Lab brings you productions still in the process of completion. This musical combines the southern Californian surf culture with dance and song. Written and directed by Corey Madden, composed by Bruno Louchouarn, and choreographed Jacques Haim, this contemporary piece balances these three mediums while still telling a riveting love story in the process.
PICK A PUMPKIN
The Calabasas Pumpkin Festival happens once a year, and this weekend is it. Today's the 2nd and final day, so get out there and pick out some great pumpkins straight from the patch! This Halloween festival has really got it all: pumpkin carving, pumpkin pie-eating contests, derby races, carnival games, seed-spitting contests... the list just goes on. Halloween is the best holiday of the year!
Other Things To Do...
Otis College invites you to a conversation with theater director Peter Sellars community activist Alex Miramontes as they discuss the artistic creative process, get your fill on scary movies at the 2008 Screamfest Film Festival, join Dr. Geraldine Knatz the Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles as she talks about the history of our port from 1850 to 1945, or get nuts for mutts at this awesome dog walk.
