Fostering Hope and Sustainability in Los Angeles

23rd%20street%20children_small.gifThe Esperanza Community Housing Corporation is a community-led organization that has served the community of LA's Figueroa Corridor since 1989 (Figueroa Corridor is in south LA, an area surrounding Figueroa Street by 100 yards to the north and south, and situated just south of downtown LA). The organization provides affordable housing to low-income residents; teaches the arts to local children; provides resources for sustainable economic development; empowers residents through education and outreach by community-trained health workers; and most importantly, develops community leaders. There are many organizations doing good work in Los Angeles; this one stands out in providing hope and sustainability.

Tonight, Esperanza is hosting "Dancing Under the Stars" -- a fundraiser that promises "Dinner, Dancing, Art, and Solidarity". What more could you ask for? Tickets are $50. If you cannot make it, donations are also accepted. And be sure to check out this compelling post about Esperanza on Lifehacker (Adam Pash is on the Board of the Esperanza Community Housing Corporation).
