Where Those Fires Stand Now

Although a red flag warning is still in effect through Friday night, the fires that kept the city at bay earlier this week are calming down. The first big blaze, the Marek Fire in the Northeast Valley, is practically contained and controlled after it took 39 homes, 5 outbuildings and one life.

And the Sesnon Fire, that grew past 13,000 acres in size after being caused by a downed power line is expected to be contained by Saturday. It claimed 15 single family homes, 47 out buildings and 41 vehicles. One death is blamed on the smoke from the fire when a tow truck and a car collided on the freeway.

A Smaller fire that started yesterday morning that had the potential to grow was thankfully controlled before spreading too far. The La Jolla Fire north of Malibu in Point Mugu State Park was 100% contained yesterday evening and is expected to be fully controlled by tonight, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
