Perfect for the season, the Screamfest Horror Film Festival brings you a wide variety of horror and sci-fi works. Tonight's feature is titled Splinter, where we find a couple trying to evade a parasitic creature while making their way through the woods after being carjacked. Festival runs through October 19th.

Hip-hop icon Jay-Z plays at the Hollywood Palladium. Backed by a 12 piece band, the show features many of his past hits and if you are lucky, a preview of his upcoming release The Blueprint 3.

The Skirball Cultural Center hosts an intriguing discussion on a hot button issue: immigration. Ilan Stavans' lecture Who Stole the Statue of Liberty? discusses immigration in present day America and the differences in the experiences of more recent immigrants versus those of the past. A book signing will follow the lecture.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the dead) at the Folk Tree Collection is a unique blend of art and remembrance. The traditional Mexican holiday features highly personalized altars aimed at keeping a loved ones memory alive. Many altars feature artisan works such as sugar skulls, candles, figurines and personal items including pictures, letters and other items. A very unique way of remembering loved ones no longer with us. Through November 2nd.
