Live Near the Fires? List Yourself as 'Safe and Well'

The American Red Cross maintains an online "Safe and Well List". This list allows friends and relatives of people who live in areas affected by a disaster, like the current fires, to check on their well-being. To conduct a search, the person needs either a phone number or a complete home address.

If you have been affected by the recent evacuations, you can stop at a local Red Cross shelter to register your well-being even if you choose not to stay at the shelter. Alternately, you can register online. Visitors to the area are also encouraged to register. Visitors from foreign countries are encouraged to register and to contact their consulate.

The Red Cross maintains strict confidentiality and will not reveal your location. If you need to re-establish contact, or alert friends and family of your location, you can call "Contact Loved Ones" voice message service at 1-866-782-6682.
