CSUN Cancels Classes Due to Fires
With the air and traffic, this was bound to happen. From CSUN's press office: "Cal State Northridge officials have cancelled afternoon and evening classes for Monday, Oct. 13, because of concerns about air quality and freeway closures due to the fires in the northeast San Fernando Valley. CSUN's webiste crashed or is overwhelmed when I was looking for logos. So I searched for CSUN class photos, that's what came up, gotta move fast! Fire news coming in fast. No time to perfect thumbnail photos.

I teach at CSUN and rather annoyingly the president won't commit to canceling classes for tomorrow. The earliest they will "know" will be 5:00 in the Motherf***ing AM! Meanwhile, I have students writing to me saying they can't/won't make it to class tomorrow.
The website is up and down today. You could do a cache search at google if you're looking for logos, etc.

Damn, I hope they cancel tomorrow. As a part time grad student, I only have class at night. Unfortunately, not on Monday, but I could totally use a night off tomorrow.
Funny how the school ended up being closed Columbus Day, even though it's not an observed holiday.

msmerymac, check with your instructor. He/she may cancel their own classes if the president isn't willing to commit.
I went ahead and my classes "optional" for Tuesday. It is a little tricky as it is midterm week but if freeways are closed and folks are having asthma attacks... I'm frankly surprised they are keeping the campus open. I would have to guess, given current conditions, they will do what they did yesterday and pull the plug on afternoon and evening classes.
