Homeless Man Killed after being Set on Fire

Homeless man set on fire in Mid-Wilshire"As an officer who has responded to many murders over the years, this is amongst the most horrific," Deputy Chief Sergio Diaz said to the LA Times of last night's murder where a homeless man was allegedly doused with two buckets of gasoline and lit on fire. "This is one of cruelest crimes you can imagine." At about 9:40 p.m. last night, police responded to a call on 3rd Street between Berendo Street and New Hampshire Avenue (near Vermont) in the Mid-Wilshire area. Unconfirmed reports from anonymous witnesses tell the Times that they saw men in their 20s pull up in a car before dousing the man, who residents of the area know as "Grimley" and say he is a 20 year resident on the streets in the area.

Poor Stinky. Man, that guy was disgusting, especially on hot days... You could smell him from over a block away. Nobody deserves this, however. Truly sick.

What are the chances the guys who did this are registered Republicans?

Was in the area tonight and the dude at the McD's asked me if I knew about this. He said that he knew the homeless man for the past 8 years or so and he was a great guy.

FYI - I witnessed Police, for at least an hour, drive around attempting to round up two dogs that got loose in the same area tonight...

I cannot begin to express how disturbing this is. Having been involved with a group that distributed free food to the homeless and having been very close to that state myself the mind-set required to treat a fellow human being as so much trash is beyond my ability to understand.

The very difference between living and dying in such circumstances is dependent entirely upon the kindness or cruelty of others.

People who denigrate or worse, attempt to destroy those who are so far down on their luck, do not seem to realize how close they are to this very same state of being. A single paycheck could mean the difference between a warm flop with cable TV and hard cold concrete in a cardboard box.

Most disturbing of all is the likelihood that the state of homeless will increase drastically in the coming months/years.

I keep reading the story and the comments. I am at a loss for words. So sad.

I am horrified by this. The people that did this should caught and bad things should happen to them.

This appeared in The Times this am. It's from an e-mail to the Times.

Victim's sister: 'Homeless people are human'

Oh man. I just looked at the location. I totally know who that was.

THAT IS SAD. THESE PEOPLE WHO DID THIS SUCK. THEY SOON SHALL GET WHAT THEY DESERVE. I AM NOT SPEAKING ANY EVIL AGAINST THEM BUT WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.
