We want to make sure you pack your schedule with as many cool events as possible this October…so here's a few festival picks for this weekend.

PasadenART
Head down the 134 and cultcha yourself at this cleverly named event…you get to see Pasadena + Art. The three-day event kicks off this Friday with ‘Art Night’ where 11 museums in the area open their doors after hours, free to the public. The weekend includes live rock, soul and trip hop performances as well as a Latino Heritage Parade. You can also purchase pieces by students and teachers from colleges in the area.

Screamfest ‘08 Horror Film Festival
Scare yourself early this year by watching some spooky shorts from filmmakers that are as serious as a heart attack (Halloween joke..someone…anyone??) about the horror sci/fi genre. The festival starts this Friday evening and runs until Oct. 19, and will debut over 20 new frightening films.

Healthy Neighborhood Festival
This one-day fest is on Saturday (Oct. 11) from 10 am-3 pm in downtown LA. It’s a block party for the entire family. Meet other members of the community who are interested in getting fit as you experiment with rock climbing, break dancing and hula hooping. You can also check to see whether you’re still ticking with free medical screenings. The best part? Parking and admission are free! (You read that right F-R-E-E parking).

JULES VERNE FESTIVAL
This festival in downtown LA celebrates the 40th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: a space odyssey with a screening of the Oscar-Winning film, on Sunday (Oct. 12) at 6 pm. Technically, the festival doesn’t start for a few weeks (Oct. 24-26) but either way, who doesn’t love a lil Kubrick on a Sunday afternoon?
