Box Office Review: Society goes to the dogs...

Presaging the imminent arrival of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Beverly Hills Chihuahua raced to the top of the box office this weekend. The cuddly piece of shit hauled in $29M from the borderline intelligent, easily outdistancing last week's champ (and fellow turd) Eagle Eye ($17.7/$54.6M). The wonderful, life-affirming Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist pulled in $12M (go see this movie immediately!), topping polished weeper Nights in Rodanthe ($7.3M/$25M) and stylized western Appaloosa ($5M/$5.5M).

The second half of the top 10 was led by the awful Lakeview Terrace ($4.5M/$32.1M). After that it was the funny Burn After Reading ($4M/$51.6M); the stupid Fireproof ($4M/$12.4M); the unfunny An American Carol ($3.8M); and the equally unfunny Religulous ($3.5M). The weekend's other newcomers barely charted: the ordinary Flash of Genius ($2.3M) and the disappointing How to Lose Friends & Alienate People ($1.4M). In limited release, Rachel Getting Married killed ($33,667 per theater). Go Anne Hathaway! Yay!
