POLTICAL KARAOKE*: It’s election season, and what better way to celebrate it then by singing a little “Executive Order Karaoke” at MOCA Grand Avenue’s Sculpture Plaza? The event is part of MOCA’s Engagement Party series, a “public action in which participants are invited to sing their favorite mixes of George W. Bush’s executive orders to popular music.” There’s a prize for the best act as well as hors d’oeuvres and cash bar (for those who need a shot of liquid courage before karaoke.) The singing commences at 7 pm.

TASTING BURBANK: Tonight’s the Taste of Downtown Burbank, a food festival that showcases Burbank’s top eating establishments and benefits the community’s YMCA. From 5:30 to 9:30 tonight, eaters can stroll San Fernando Boulevard between Magnolia and Orange Grove and sample and graze for $30. It’s $10 extra if you want to add a beer and wine ticket. There will be 40 restaurants providing the eats, and music by Phat Cats Swinger and City Beat. Children 12 years and younger are $10 and group discounts are available.

STYLIN’ FOR A CAUSE: There’s a special benefit reception for Amazon Watch at Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills tonight from 6:30-9:30. Drinks, appetizers and salon services will be available with 70% of proceeds going to Amazon Watch. Services include: cut ($120), color ($90), blow-dry ($70), brow shaping ($40), and make-up ($30). Amazon Watch works with indigenous and environmental organizations in the Amazon to defend the environment and advance the rights of the indigenous people from large-scale industrial development of oil and gas pipelines, power lines, roads and other mega projects. Q'Orianka Kilcher and Isla Fisher are scheduled to appear.

FILM: The Aero Theatre hosts “Focus on Female Directors: Five to Watch” tonight at 7:30. On the bill is a mix of documentary, live-action and animated films that include Kate Hudson's short Cutlass, where Virginia Madsen, Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell star in this film about two generations of daughters coveting treasures greatly above their teenage budgets. Photographer Lauren Greenfield's Kids & Money examines teens and their concepts of wealth. Michelle Hung's Chinese Dumplings looks at how a strict mother tests the bonds of sisterhood. Amanda Micheli & Isabel Vega's Oscar-nominated documentary La Corona (The Crown) follows a beauty competition in a women's prison in Bogotá. And Nicole Mitchell's Zoologic is a 2008 Student Academy Award winner. Directors Michelle Hung, Nicole Mitchell, Amanda Micheli, Lauren Greenfield and Isabel Vega will be at the event for discussion.
